WHEN IT IS MORE BLESSED TO GIVE THAN TO RECEIVE

I want to share my thoughts on a very serious topic today, serious because it has become exceedingly controversial lately and many people do not agree with the one-sided unbalanced messages from the pulpit on Giving. It has generated lots of bad blood within the Ecclesia, and the Laity have become emboldened in challenging the Clergy with respect to the perceived imbalance in presenting a very Lovely Doctrine of Giving and Receiving. 
 
I’ll start my Inspire Today piece by asking some very simple questions and give the general answers to the same questions…
 
Question: Is This Passage In The Bible; ‘…and to remember the Words of the Lord Jesus, how He said, It Is More Blessed To Give Than To Receive’ (Acts 10 v 35)?
Answer: Yes
 
Question: Is this in red letter In the red lettered version, meaning our Lord Jesus Said So?
Answer: Yes 
 
Question: Is God A Liar and Jesus As Well?
Answer: No way!
 
Question: Are Preachers Abusing The Magnanimity / Doctrine of Scriptures On Giving to Take Money From People?
Answer: Probably Yes! 
 
Question: Should We Debate His Word and Disagree Because Of a Few Bad People who Are Involved In Scripture Abuse Over Their Flock?
Answer: No Way 
 
The above Questions and Answers gives you my honest opinion on the topic of Giving and Receiving as a Christian not even a Preacher. It is soundly scriptural; it is what God wants us to do and we should obey God and not man on this matter. 
 
However, there are circumstances that It May Not Be More Blessed to Give than Receive; for instance, when we are giving to get back, when we give to deceive, when we give to steal, when we give expecting God to Double the seed back in return etc. 
 
4 TIMES WHEN IT IS MORE BLESSED TO GIVE THAN RECEIVE
 

  1. GIVE TO THE POOR: Whenever we give to the poor and feeble, God considers those acts as charity towards humanity and He will surely reward us. It’s more blessed to give to those who can’t reward us back and the Poor People are in that category. 
  2. GIVE TO THE WIDOWS: When we give to Widows and Weak Women without help from Men, God will always look down with Mercy upon those who show love to the Widows. They are indeed the most downtrodden in societies, especially Widows who don’t have sons and helpers in life. 
  3. GIVE TO SERVANTS OF GOD: Now there are different kinds of Men of God; those who are greedy and those who are not greedy. The greedy ones may have lost their places in the presence of God unbeknownst to their followers but there are still many who use the gifts from people to meet the needs of others like the apostles did in Acts 4 v 35-37. I believe God wants us to take care of His servants who haven’t bowed to Mammon. 
  4. GIVE TO CHARITY: There are many good charitable organizations that we can associate with anonymously without expecting things back in return. God will always bless us back when we give to Charities worldwide where our names aren’t mentioned.

THINK ON THESE THINGS

A wise man once said, ‘people don’t think’ but I believe people think but not just the right thoughts. Thinking is probably the most difficult thing to do on earth. It’s very important to use the Mind well and positively by thinking right, it’s the place of incubating ideas and processing words before acting them out and developing our character. 
 
The Bible tells us about what to Think on so that we can become what God wants us to be. Paul was a Man of great words and deep spirituality because of many things, one of which was his mindset. Solomon says, ‘as a man thinks, so is he…’ (Prov 23 v 7) meaning we are our thoughts not our thoughts make us who we are.
 
Social media has indeed become a place of expressing social madness in the name of liberty. The other day, someone showed me a lady’s nude picture in front of her 7 year old son, she was stark naked and claimed she wanted to show the Innocent boy how she gave birth to him years before. I didn’t see any show of wisdom and wit but rather insanity in the name of liberty, it’s sheer child abuse on social media.
 
Let me Inspire you on what to Think on and how to guard Your pure minds jealously from the deadly influences out there in the digital space. We have to go back to biblical reason by embracing God’s wise counsel in managing our thoughts by simply obeying Paul’s advice to the Philippians when he said, ‘…Think on These Things’ (Phil. 4 v 8) 
 
‘finally brethren, whatsoever things are TRUE, whatsoever things are HONEST, whatsoever things are JUST, whatsoever things are PURE, whatsoever things are of GOOD REPORT, if there be any VIRTUE, and if there be any PRAISE, think on these things (Philippians 4 v 8).
 
Let’s take a closer look at the 7 Pillars of Moral Thoughts and Good thinking. 
 
7 PILLARS OF MORAL THOUGHTS
 

  1. TRUE: Paul started with truth not falsehood. Many people don’t fact-check the information they spread on social media, they just push out so much gossip and rumours because of the ‘breaking news’ syndrome. We want to be the first to break it even if it’s not fact checked. We should ONLY share true news and not peddle falsehood, let’s always check what we believe and get it right. 

 

  1. HONEST: We are to concentrate our minds on Honest things not dishonest things. That’s why I’m unhappy at the way young people follow criminals on social media when they know the source of their wealth and are aware that it was gotten through dishonest means. Let’s once again love Honest hard-working people not follow terrible corrupt Politicians and fraudsters.

 

  1. JUST: Thinking on Just and Fair things is simply morally right. We should push Justice for the women who are Raped, fight for the weak and feeble in our land, ponder on Justice and Equity at workplace and Meditate constantly on these things only. God hates injustice and so should we, we serve a Just God and we must reflect that in our walk with Him. 

 

  1. PURE: To become Pure in life starts with cultivating a Pure mind and not otherwise. I ask you to think only Pure Thoughts and not Impure thoughts of betrayals, pornography, slander, and evil intent. Let’s all ask God to purify our hearts. 

 

  1. GOOD REPORT: This is where a believer should be different from an unbeliever, getting it right with the report we share always reveals a lot about us and our character. We should not be hasty in sharing Bad Reports about people in our church, workplace, household, and family. Many people share Bad Reports like its gospel and it’s certainly not.

 

  1. VIRTUE: Paul says we should Think On Things That Are Virtuous, we should devote our minds to Think on things that have Virtues not Vices, to Think on them is to like those thoughts and embrace them joyfully. Many people magnify Vices like Lying, Cheating, Stealing, Betrayals, Slandering etc. They are simply Vices and not Virtues regardless of who is practicing them, the actors don’t make it right. 

 

  1. PRAISE: Let me ask you a question, do you think people will Praise you if they Know the Thoughts of your heart? if the answer is NO, then don’t think about those things. Think only about things that can project Praise and Praiseworthy actions, don’t think on things that will bring shame not Praise. 

 
These are the 7 Pillars of Moral Thoughts that we should all devote our minds to process as Thoughts regularly.

REWIRED TO BE HAPPY

I’ve always felt one of the most difficult passages to obey in the Bible is found in Philippians 4 v 4, very simple instruction and directive yet extremely difficult to obey. However, since it is a mandate from scripture, I choose to believe it is not Impossible to carry out.
 
Apostle Paul commands by the Holy Spirit, ‘Rejoice in the Lord ALWAYS, and again I say, Rejoice’ 
 
How possible is it for someone to live Happy everyday and always; to bubble with joy everywhere, to be cheerful always, be glad always, jump for joy and make merry regardless of situations around them? I’ve been wondering if it’s not just a biblical injunction that’s not meant to be obeyed by mortal men since to achieve happiness is the most important objective of human beings and also almost an impossible quest for all. 
 
The Bible also says, ‘All scriptures are given by the inspiration of God and is PROFITABLE for doctrine, for reproof, for correction and INSTRUCTION in righteousness (right living).’ Therefore, this commandment to ‘Rejoice in the Lord Always’ should be seen in the light of the above purposes of scriptures. Hence, I must study the Bible more to find out how to obey this passage and unlock the keys to living a Happy Life always without being sad and melancholy.
 
This Covid19 pandemic has robbed many souls of happiness, joy and gladness because of the unpleasant changes in the way we live, worship, socialize and work today. It’s called the ‘new normal’ and many of us prefer our older ways’ to these new ways by far yet we are constrained by government to live by observing social distancing rules in addition to wearing face masks to protect us and our loved ones and this is beginning to affect our ‘Happiness…’
 
The answer to being Happy always is to REWIRE our Brains and Minds to think differently, I have always believed that the mind that thinks scripturally will always be more Peaceful and Happier than that mind that thinks secularly. The key is to REWIRE our minds and reprogram it to think or process information scripturally not secularly. I intend to Inspire you today on how to Be Happy Always without being Sad at all from scriptures. 
 
5 KEYS TO LIVING A HAPPY LIFE ALWAYS 
 

  1. THANKFUL HEART: This is the most powerful key the heart and mind of any man can possess and cultivate. It takes a scripture focused mind to develop a grateful Heart in man. The Bible says, ‘in everything give Thanks, for this is the will of God concerning you’ (1 Thess. 5 v 18). Try to recall three things you are grateful for each day and you will find happiness bubbling out of your heart daily. 

 

  1. FORGIVING HEART: I found out that the one of the deadliest vice the enemy uses to keep us from being happy is ‘unforgiveness’. It has robbed many from joy, stolen the peace from the hearts of men and crushed their ability to rise from terrible betrayals. Our Lord told us to forgive people seventy times seven daily which is almost impossible; meaning we should cultivate a Forgiving Heart if we are going to be Happy Daily.

 

  1. A HEART OF WORSHIP: This takes some deep spirituality and maturity to develop, I know many secular believers and nominal Christians may find this tough but it’s not something impracticable if we only allow our minds to focus more on God in worship and musing some lovely Christian tunes always. It’s the key to being Happy Always 

 

  1. POSITIVE MIND AND HEART: To embrace positive energy is very important to living a Happy Life because of the power of positive thinking over negative thinking. Get the right stuff into your minds, control the news you watch, manage your heart like you manage your money, keep the right things inside and wrong things outside, then you shall find it easy to Be Happy Always. 

 

  1. MANAGE YOUR EXPECTATIONS: Now this is the prince of all counsels, do not embrace greed and expect to be Happy, the quest for money in life is the major reason why people are sad. A survey was done to find the happiest people on earth and the results are alarming because they are in India…the poorest people on earth were discovered to be the happiest people, meaning money can’t buy happiness. Live happily with your modest income. 

 
I hope these counsels will suffice to help you REWIRE YOURSELF TO BE HAPPY.
